It has been a memorable Hurricane Preparedness Week with Adrian, the earliest East Pacific Tropical Storm quickly pulling together and then dissipating. National Hurricane Center and NOAA had a busy week utilizing media to spread vital information to residents and disaster groups in preparation of the Atlantic Hurricane Season beginning June 1st. This year's preparedness steps are:
1. Determine your risk.
2. Develop an evacuation plan.
3. Assemble Disaster Supplies.
4. Secure an insurance check-up.
5. Strengthen your home.
6. Check on your neighbor.
7. Complete your written hurricane plan.

There was a webinar for the kids and some well done videos released, like this one..
The best part though was the Hurricane Awareness Tour. The Hurricanes Hunters along with some NHC forecasters took to the skies and landed in cites from the Caribbean to the East Coast to gather with local disaster officials, meteorologists and community service entities to get people prepared for the season ahead. I met up with the tour in Orlando, FL. It was a great opportunity to school children, see where all the recon data comes from and hear the stories behind some of the incidents seen in past data.
