The many glaciers in Northern Pakistan are feeling the heat of climate change. One in the Gilgit-Baltistan province burst with melt sending a torrent of water through Badswat village. Homes, roads, bridges, crops and forests were swept away. The village was evacuated in time by the authorities and is reported that no one died. A local, Baz told the Thomson Reuters Foundation, "Surrounded by mountains and muddy water, it seems we are living between life and death,". This is the first time in living memory that one of the glaciers in that area has had such an outburst of melt.
