Typhoon Nesat and Tropical Storm Haitang bring record air pollution to Hong Kong
The subsiding air on the outer edges of Nesat and Haitang are combining with high heat and sunshine to trap and exasperate bad air conditions where photo-chemical smog and ozone are forming and unable to disperse, leading to high levels of nitrogen dioxide in urban areas and along roadsides.
So Much Flooding
There is so much flooding occurring right now worldwide there is no covering it all.. So this morning picking to highlight the flooding in West Virgina from the low currently coming off the Northeast. This really caught some communities off guard, some of which suffered pretty bad flooding last weekend. A state of the emergency has been declared by the Governor. Over 30 were rescued. The new fire station in Hundred, West Virgina was hit badly, they lost "everything" including four emergency vehicles.
97L was short lived.. NASA's GEOS-5 model had it struggling to the point of never becoming a Tropical Depression this morning. Still likes to hit Texas Sunday after next. It's a ways out. Between the heat of summer, ample meteor debris and smoke in the atmosphere it has been an excellent week for noctilucent cloud (NLC) spotting for those in the far reaches of the Northern Hemisphere.
NASA's GEOS-5 still likes the wave 97L to develop into a Tropical Depression ~33W on Saturday. Has it as a depression or possible Tropical Storm and then diurnal cycling through day/night open wave/depression for a night or two before dying on the islands. Similar to Don, just slower.
It has been on and off about a weak low in the BOC starting Wednesday. This run is the first that comes a little more north and has a chance to spin up along the coast of Texas. The low coming off the Northeast it tries to form a low on the tail but it wasn't really holding together very long that run. 97L Recorded a little Background Flute today..
Published on Jul 18, 2017 Tropical Storm Don bad weather stranded at Caura River and Santa cruz
Found more on this at Trinidad Express. Looks like 24 limers crossed the river for the Lime festivities. Their group included a toddler. The rains form Don raised the river six feet and they couldn't cross back, but tried anyways. The fire department was called out and eventually safely rescued everyone. Flooding also occurred in North and South Trinidad. Flights between some islands were disrupted. Afternoon Rain
Temperatures stayed less than 90F before noon with the help of the sea-breeze clouds coming in from the ocean. Busterpony got his mid summer clip. He didn't look like he would make it another day in the heat. Warmed to 94F before the storms blew up. A wind speed of 45mph was reported at Haulover Canal.

Ground Begins to Smoulder in Mexico
In the small town of Pueblo Viejo located in Mexico, the soccer field began to open up and smolder on Sunday. After a preliminary inspection it was thought to be geothermal activity from an underground swamp. The locals remain weary that it is a volcano forming under town, despite there being no earthquakes associated with it. There is more here.
Some unexpected flooding at Cummins Falls in Tennessee caught at least 40 people off guard. At least one died, a 73 year old woman. Another mid forties aged woman was found dead while searching for the other missing woman. It's not yet determined if the second death was a direct result of the flooding. There was some heroes that saved the day for most..
